Undergraduate Big/Little Sisters Program

Who are we?

The purpose of the program is to strengthen the bonds between women in SCS and encourage a forum for discussion and support. We pair freshmen Little Sisters with upperclassmen Big Sisters. The Big Sister/Little Sister relationship serves as an excellent way for first year girls to get to know someone in the department whom they can look up to and ask for guidance. Furthermore, the program encourages Big Sisters to share their experiences and perceptions of computer science.

What do we do?

To kick-off the program each year, we hold a "Speed Dating" event where upperclassmen and first years have the opportunity to meet each other and choose who they would like to be their Sister. We then organize various fun activities where participants can spend time with the other Sisters. Some sample activities are cookie decorating, arts & crafts, pumpkin carving, iceskating, workshops like our Speaking Skills Workshop, and off-campus activities. Sisters are also encouraged to meet one-on-one and get to know each other better.

How can you get involved?

If you would like to get involved in the Big Sister/Little Sister program, please contact Trisha Quan or Elizabeth Kemp (program coordinators) stating whether you would like to be a Big Sister or a Little Sister.
