What is the Grad/Undergrad Sisters program?
The program matches are between junior and senior undergrad women in
computer science and female grad students in SCS. The matches are
intended to be a low-key and fun way to get to know another member of
the CS community. Undergrads
don't need to be considering grad school to sign up; the job of a grad
sister isn't to convince undergrads to go to grad school, but to get to
know them and develop a good relationship.
If you are currently an undergraduate and are interested in mentoring an incoming
freshman, check out our Big/Little Sisters program. If you are currently a graduate student interested in networking with other graduate students, check out our Graduate-to-Graduate Sisters program.
How can I be a good Grad/Undergrad Sister?
1. Meet! Meet with your sister within 3 weeks of receiving contact
info. After that, meet face-to-face at least twice each semester.
2. Keep in touch! Email every now and then, even if it's just to say
hi. Respond to your sister's emails in a timely fashion, even if it's
just to say that you're swamped with work.
3. Make it work. Respond to email once or twice a year to verify that
your mentor match is going okay. Every now and then, a match will fail
despite your best intentions. That's okay! Contact the coordinator,
Katrina, promptly if you can no longer participate in the
program, you're unable to get in touch with your sister, or you have
other problems or questions.
How can I get involved?
If you would like to get involved in the Grad/Undergrad
Sisters program, please contact Katrina (program coordinator)
stating whether you are a Grad or Undergrad. She will send you a form used to match you with an appropriate Sister. Matches are made throughout the year, so you can sign up at any point.
