    Its purpose is to encourage women to enter, study, graduate, and teach in fields where there have been obstacles to their advancement: physics, chemistry, biology, meterorology, engineering, computer science, and mathematics.

    The Clare Boothe Luce Program promotes the advancement of American women through higher education in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics.

    Please note that the Luce Foundation does not accept applications directly from students, have your Department Chairman or Financial Aid office write or call for information regarding this program.

    Judith Resnik Challenger Scholarships for Women

    DESCRIPTION: To recognize the pioneering spirit and outstanding academic and personal achievement of women committed to study in engineering, science or computer science, Carnegie Mellon offers the Judith Resnik -- Challenger Scholarships for Women.
    AWARD: The Judith Resnik -- Challenger Scholarships for Women will cover at least half the cost of undergraduate tuition. These awards are presented without regard to a family's financial need and are renewable for four years of undergraduate education at Carnegie Mellon, provided students maintain an outstanding academic record.

    ELIGIBILITY: To be considered for the scholarship, you must: exhibit excellence in academic achievement receive exemplary recommendations from teachers and counselors enhance your school or community through personal involvement demonstrate a strong sense of personal integrity apply for undergraduate study in either the School of Computer Science, the Carnegie Institute of Technology or the Mellon College of Science not be a son/daughter of a Carnegie Mellon employee. Recipients must be either U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

    IEEE-RAS Fellowships

    DESCRIPTION: IEEE RAS members may recall a recent Call for Proposals to support projects with unexpended funds in Calendar Year 2007. One of the projects approved by the Society is a fellowship for a female Ph.D. student in the areas of robotics and/or automation, to be expended before the end of the calendar year. Proposals for the "IEEE RAS Fellowship" are now solicited. The fellowship is intended to support a student who will have a significant future impact on the fields of robotics and/or automation through her current or future technical contributions.
    AWARD: The fellowship carries an award of $12,500 to be used for stipend/tuition support, and IEEE regulations require that the funds be fully obligated by November 30, 2007 for supporting a student up to but not beyond December 31, 2007. There are no funds available for continuing the fellowship beyond the end of the year.
    DEADLINE: February 15, 2008
    ELIGIBILITY: Female doctoral students who are fully admitted to a Ph.D. program at an academic institution and have the nomination of an IEEE RAS member may apply. The applicant must be a registered student for at least the period September-November 2007. The proposal should be submitted through the sponsored projects office of the applicant's institution. Applicants are urged to contact their institution's sponsored projects office before beginning the application to verify that the institution is willing to administer this award under the constraints mandated by IEEE. The institutional approval will be reviewed by IEEE, and applicants should be aware that no funds will be released unless the method of spending and invoicing meets IEEE approval.


    Morgan Stanley Women in Technology (WIT)

    DESCRIPTION: All recipients are awarded an academic scholarship and a paid technology internship.
    AWARD:
    • Recipients applying during their junior year, or 4th year in a 5-year program, are awarded $10,000 during their senior year, or 5th year, to cover any unmet educational needs.
    • Recipients applying during their sophomore year, or in their 3rd year in a 5-year program, are awarded $5,000 during their junior year, or 4th year, to cover any unmet educational needs. Scholarships are renewed for the senior year, or 5th year, in an amount of $5,000 at the Firm's discretion
    DEADLINE: March 10 2006
    ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, the student must:
    • Have an active, consecutive enrollment as a full-time student as defined by his/her college during each semester of scholarship award
    • Be a sophomore or junior female at the time of application. If the student is in a 5-year program, must be in 3rd or 4th year at the time of application
    • Have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement (minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0)
    • Commit to a paid summer internship in the Morgan Stanley Information Technology Division in the summer following the time of application
    • Have demonstrated interest and aptitude in work with computers/ technology
    • Computer science or engineering major is preferred, however all majors and disciplines are encouraged to apply

    NSF IGERT Graduate Fellowships

    DESCRIPTION: We are soliciting applications for the 2005-6 NSF IGERT Graduate Fellowships. These fellowships are awarded on an annual basis to CMU PhD graduate students working in assistive technology. They are similar to NSF Graduate Fellowships in that they cover about 75% of the total cost of a student. Information about the program shared between CMU and Pitt is available from: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~cga/igert/
    Any student who is a US Citizen or permanent resident and who is working on a project in assistive technology (broadly construed) is eligible.

    University of Memphis: Fellowship Opportunities

    DESCRIPTION: Teaching Fellowships will be awarded to 9 outstanding computer science graduate students for the 2005-2006 academic year to support the Tri-P-LETS (Three P Learning Environment for Teachers and Students) Project. Fellows assist local high school teachers in computer programming courses using innovative teaching techniques such as modeling software and Lego Robots. These fellowships are funded by National Science Foundation grant DGE-0338334 with stipends of $30,000 per year plus tuition. Fellowships are renewable up to two years. Awardees must be US citizens, nationals, or have permanent residence status and hold a BS degree in computer science with experience in software engineering. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Review of applications began March 15, 2005. We welcome additional applications. Applicants for Teaching Fellowships must also apply to the University of Memphis Graduate School.
